In 2001 Katya had a unique opportunity to travel to Mediterranean countries such as Turkey, Morocco, Greece etc, and was absolutely fascinated with what she saw. With her newfound love for these interesting cultures there is little wonder how she began studying belly dance.

Only two month into practicing Katya had her first troupe performance. Soon she became a regular at the local Hafla, performing solo or as a member of AzizahHabibi troupe.
Katya has performed at various venues across Chicagoland including Our Night (Layalena's) and Sphinx Cafe.
Recently she became a finalist at the Golden Navel Competition at Tizi Melloul in Chicago. Katya's prior dance experience allows her be more independent in dance technique selection. She likes to experiment with various dance styles and incorporate them into traditional belly dance routine. Her fascination with culture encouraged her to explore other forms of dance such as Flamenco, Indian, Romanian Gypsy, and American Tribal Belly Dance. She is not afraid of using new techniques and combinations to surprise and delight the audience.

Katya said: "Dance has always been the most exciting and fun aspect of my life as long as I remember myself. It gave me an experience: spiritual growth, positive energy, sensuality, challenges, competitive abilities, passion, self-expression, rhythm ecstasy and healthy and fit lifestyle."
